William Murray, b. bet 1688-1717 in Scotland

William Murray, b. bet 1688-1717 in Scotland. He married F&MNU Murray. I. William Murray, b. 06-01-1739 in Scotland. He married F&MNU Murray. A. Andrew Murray, b. abt 1755 in Newberry, 96th District, SC, d. bt 1820-1830 in MS, arrived abt 1750 in SC. "The Murrays, upon arriving in the colony of South Carolina, about 1750, were among its early settlers. South Carolina was only divided from North Carolina in 1710. They were known to have lived in settlements on Indian, Gliders, and King Creeks. By 1775 the total population of South Carolina was 100,000 with only 25,000 being white, the remainder -- slaves. The cultivation of rice and indigo on large plantations using slave labor was the basis of a prosperous economy at that time, with cotton becoming the dominant crop after 1776. We assume that the Murrays were involved in that portion of the economy. Some of them were Baptist, Presbyterians, and, subsequent to the Revolutionary War, Methodists." Andrew MURRAY I was born in the Ninety Sixth District (later to be know as Newberry County) in 1755. All three of his children were born in Edgefield District, James in 1792, Andrew II in 1795, and Alexander in 1808. To be technically correct the Edgefield District was not created until 1795 from part of the Ninety-Six District, so James was really born in the Ninety-Six District. I do not have the source for above. He was in the census 1790 in Newberry area, 96th Dist., SC (He had 1 daughter.), In the census 1800 in Edgefield District, SC (He had 4 sons and 1 daughter.), He moved 1818 in MS (In 1818 Andrew Murray I and his family, with the Bushes, Walkers and the McCartys left for Mississippi. In the census 1820 in Wayne Co., MS. He married Lydia MNU Murray. 1. FNU Murray, b. bet 1784-1790. 2. FNU Murray, b. bet 1790-1800. 3. FNU Murray, b. bet 1790-1800. 4. James Murray, b. 09-24-1792 in Edgefield District, SC, d. 01-27-1861 in Pearl River, Simpson Co., MS. He was a Minister and the following is from the 1861 Minutes of the Mt. Zion Church written shortly after his death: WHEREAS, it has seemed good in the sight of the Almighty God, in the dispensation of His Providence, to remove from among us to His house, former moderator of our body, we deem it proper to publicly notice the event: BE IT RESOLVED: That we cherish with affectionate regard, the memory of our beloved moderator as a man, a devoted Christian, and an exemplary and efficient minister of the Gospel and remember with gratitude his labors and love among us. We are constrained to acknowledge the wisdom and justice of that mysterious providence which has removed from our midst, so pious, devoted and self-sacrificing minister of the Gospel, and whereas we can but deplore his loss, we feel if incumbent upon us to pray with renewed earnestness, that the lord of the harvest might send forth more fruits and devoted laborers into the vineyard. Brother Murray was born in Edgefield District, SC on September 24, 1792. He became a member of the Baptist Church in the early part of his life. He was baptized into fellowship of Flat Rock Church, Edgefield District, SC in the 22nd year of his age. Soon after uniting with the church, he removed to Wayne County, Mississippi, where he resided a few years and enjoyed membership in Salem Church. His second move was to Silver Creek, Simpson County, where he united with the Hebron Church, Lawrence County and on the 29th of August 1835 was ordained a minister of the Gospel by a Presbytery consisting of H. Robertson, Sr. and H. Robertson, Jr. and James Powell. His last move was to Pearl River, 6 miles above Georgetown, where he united with Palestine Church, in which he lived, labored and died. He was a good citizen, a kind and benevolent man, an affectioate husband, a loving father, a tenderhearted master, a devoted Christian, and a useful minister of the Gospel, one that did much for the establishment of the Redeemer's Kingdom. He was elected moderator of our Association at its third anniversary and presided over that body for six years, with honor to himself until his death, and died at his residence on Pear River, Simpson County, Mississippi on January 27,1861, aged 68 years, 4 months and three days. His beloved partner in life soon followed him, where we trust they are now enjoying together the smiles of our Blessed Savior and with a sad heart, we bid them farewell. RESOLVED, also that we tender our most heartfelt sympathies and prayers to our sister churches, Palestine and Bethlehem, and most especially to the children and relatives of the deceased brother and sister. RESOLVED further, that the foregoing notice be published in our minutes. Respectfully submitted, James N____an, Chairman), In 1814 in Flat Rock Church, Edgefield District, SC (Baptized in 1814.), He moved 11-23-1818 to Wayne Co., MS, and Moved 1824 to Lawrence Co., MS, On 08-29-1835 he was ordained Minister, Hebron Church, Lawrence Co., MS, In the census 1850 in Simpson Co., MS, he was listed as follows: James 55 Farmer $1600 SC, Margaret, 38 GA, Madison 29 Farmer MS, Willis 19 Farmer MS, Andrew Z.? 17 Farmer MS, James F. 14 Ms, Ann J. 10 MS, Archibal d 8 MS, Elizabeth W./M. 6 MS, Norvel H. 3 MS, Margaret C... 1 MS, Nancy K.
