Richard Bush was indentured in Bristol, England to work for William Roberts in Virginia for four years.
Going to the records of Virginia we find William Roberts was granted land from 1652 to 1661 in Gloucester
and Northamption Counties, Virginia. From these land records it appears William Roberts had well over a 1,000 acres of land.
The part of Northhampton County where land was granted William Roberts was located on a peninsular
straight out from the mouth of the Rappahannock River.
Glouscester County, Virginia was located on the coast of the middle neck formed by the Rappahannock River
and the York River.
Essex County, Virginia where Richard Bush is found in 1689 is about 30-35 miles up this middle neck from where William Roberts was granted land.

In 1786 he was compensated for having supplied provision and forage for General Green's army from his plantation during the American Revolution. In 1795 Patience Hicks voluntarily apprenticed herself to "Richard Bush, Sr., Citizen of Edisto, Planter, Edgefield County, South Carolina," for seven years. He also owned property on 11-25-1756 in Duplin Co., NC. (From: Adell T. Prescott, Historian for Southern Branch of Prescott Family)

If I am interpreting this correctly, the Whitfield's own land had been patented by William Smith and the land granted also joined Richard Bush and an Indian fork called Norquathtroka. Anyway, the old Dobbs Deed Index lists a deed from Richard Bush to William Whitfield [recorded DB 8, p. 82--such a shame the deeds are burned]. The time for the deed is estimated by archivists to have been around 1769-1771. He owned property in 1765 (Colony of NC Land Grants 1765-1775, Vol. 2A, 346, p. 197).
William Whitfield
I do know that Richard Bush owned land in old Dobbs County after the time he resided on Burncoat Swamp in Duplin. Colony of NC Land Grants 1765-1775, Vol. 2A, 346, p. 197. During this same time frame, Moses Prescott sold his land on the Neuse River to Edward Carter and Constantine Whitfield.
