Exciting DNA News for the LITTLES!

LITTLES, Their Locations AND THEIR Differences!

First, an explanation as to why the two different set of Littles that were located in Simpson County, MS are referred to as Simpson Co. Littles and Smith Co.Littles.

This map (graphics are not my specialty) shows the proximity and the areas where each of the sets of Littles lived early on. So, to distinguish between the two groups, they are referred to as Simpson Co. Littles and Smith Co. Littles.

Now the EXCITING news. Recently, a member of the Simpson Co. Littles, Mike Little had his DNA testing done (Thank you, Mike!) and was found to be closely related to David Patterson Little, proving that we ARE aligned with his particular line. However, still, according to the Bibles in his possession, the Robert that is our originally proved ancestor died when he was 17 years of age. More and more, after reading volumes of information on the Covenanter Presbyterians, perhaps it is possible for someone to have entered a death date in the Bible because of association and then marriage to Mary Collins Spikes who was most probably not of that faith. See Samuel Collins information. And the two Bibles do not agree on the death date.

There is yet another breakthrough as a result of DNA testing. I have an internet friend, William A. Little, from Texas, who is of the Smith County Littles. He recently had his DNA tested (Thank you Bill!) and as a result, we know at this time that the Smith Co. Littles and the Simpson Co. Littles are NOT related. The DNA shows that William is related to John Patterson Little of the Smith Co. Line.

If you would like to see the results of these tests, check them out here. Our Mike Little is listed in the light orange group and William A. Little is listed in the gold area further down on the page. And if you would like to have your DNA tested as a part of this Little DNA project, check here. An excellent source for any questions you might have is Leo Little (he has been so very helpful in understanding all of this), drop me a note for his e-mail address.
